What could have possessed Emmanuel Adebayor to step on Robin Van Percy's face? I saw it live and had to avert my eyes. Then I saw the replay and realized that he did it on purpose. WTF? Later, Adebayor scored a goal and ran the entire length of the pitch to taunt the Arsenal supporters. That nearly led to a good old-fashioned melee, the type for which British football fans are well-known. The type in which people get badly hurt. Again: WTF? What do you do with behavior like that? Either incident, by itself, would normally fetch a 4 or 5 game suspension. I think that take together Adebayor deserves a harsher penalty. It better be a big money fine and at least 6 weeks suspension. What a jerk. It's hard for me to believe that I ever supported him when he was at Arsenal.
Apparently it warranted only a yellow and no further punishment. The EPL is getting like Mexico, if there's no decapitation then there's no need for a red card. Pretty low class in taunting fans of your former team especially when they were good to you when you were there. It's just nor cricket, what.
ReplyDeleteok... van Percy getting personal with Adebayor's sole might warrant some sort of disciplining. But English football, like the big three in the US, has turned into wine and cheese events. Taunting the fans a bit after moving clubs, not really something the FA should rule on... I mean he did not pull an Eric the Red.
ReplyDeleteNot saying England should let chaos reign like in other countries, BUT lets not forget England used to be Tommy Smith, Billy Bremner, Chopper Harris, Julian Dicks, and Vinnie Jones. The good old days... Sorry, maybe being from Cleveland, and living in Philly has skewed my idea of how players should behave...
Living in Philly will get you everytime!
